How to play Big Bass Blast

The rules take two minutes; the maths behind them is what decides how your session goes. This page covers the paytable, what each symbol is actually worth, how the collect step works, and where the Bonus Bet and Bonus Buy are and are not worth their price.

Getting started

Six steps from cold start to first spin

Nothing here is specific to this game except the last two, and those two are where most sessions are won or lost.

  1. 1

Pick a casino that carries it

Any UK site with the Pragmatic Play catalogue should have it. Check whether Bonus Buy and Bonus Bet are enabled, because plenty of operators switch both off.

  2. 2

    Register and verify

UK casinos must confirm your identity before you can withdraw, so getting documents out of the way at sign-up saves an argument later.

  3. 3

    Set your limits first

Deposit and loss limits live in account settings. Setting them before your first spin is the single most useful habit on this list.

  4. 4

Deposit, then read the bonus terms

If you claimed free spins, check whether this game counts towards wagering. Slots usually do at 100%, but exclusions exist and they are always in the small print.

  5. 5

Choose a stake you can repeat 200 times

Divide your session budget by 200, not by 20. With a bonus arriving once in 59 spins on average, that is the runway the game is built around.

  6. 6

Spin, and watch the left canister

The stake control and the Bonus Buy price sit on the steel canisters to the left of the reels. The info button opens the full paytable at your current stake.

Paytable

What each symbol is worth

Ten paylines pay left to right from reel one. The two symbols that decide your session are not line symbols at all — the Money fish holds the cash, and the Fisherman is the only thing that can collect it.

  • Fisherman Wild

    Fisherman Wild

Wild and collector. Lands on reels 1 and 5, substitutes for regular symbols, and takes the value of every Money symbol on screen.

Collects the total. In the base game he can arrive with a 2x, 3x or 10x multiplier applied to that total.

  • Money symbol

    Money symbol

Carries its own printed cash value and waits on the grid to be collected. It pays nothing on its own.

0.5x to 500x your stake, shown on the banner beneath the fish.

  • Scatter

    Scatter

The leaping bass. Pays no line wins, only entry to the bonus round.

    3, 4 or 5 Scatters award 5, 7 or 9 free spins.

  • Tackle boxFishing rodFloatDragonfly

    Premium symbols

Tackle box, rod, float and dragonfly. The four best-paying line symbols.

50x to 200x for five of a kind, depending on the symbol.

  • AKQJ10

    Royals

A, K, Q, J and 10. Filler symbols that keep the balance ticking over between features.

5x to 10x for five of a kind.

Pragmatic Play publishes the premium and royal groups as ranges rather than a symbol-by-symbol table, so the exact split between the four premiums is not something we will invent here. The in-game info panel shows the precise figures at your current stake.

Stake controls

Three ways to pay for a bonus round

One of them is patience, and it is free. The other two cost money up front and change the shape of your session rather than your long-run return.

  • Standard stake

From £0.10 a spin. The ceiling is set by your casino and reaches £240 where it is permitted, though UK sites commonly cap it far lower.

Nothing is added and nothing is skipped. The bonus arrives when it arrives — on average once in 59 spins.

  • Bonus Bet

Adds 50% to every spin in exchange for a better chance of triggering the free spins naturally.

Worth considering only if the bonus round is the entire reason you loaded the game and you have the budget for the higher stake. It does not improve what the round pays once it starts.

  • Bonus Buy

Opens the free spins immediately for 100x your total bet — £20 at a 20p stake.

You are paying a fixed price for a round with a variable outcome, and a bought round can still finish below what it cost. Treat it as buying entertainment, not as buying value.

Bonus mechanics

How the collect step actually works

Every other feature in this game exists to serve one moment: a Fisherman Wild landing while Money symbols are on screen. Understanding that moment is the whole game.

The collection

Money symbols do nothing by themselves. They sit on the grid with a printed value between half your stake and 500x it, and they pay only when a Fisherman Wild lands on reel 1 or reel 5. He then sweeps up every Money symbol on screen at once, which is why a grid crowded with small fish can out-pay a single large one.

In the base game he sometimes arrives carrying a random 2x, 3x or 10x multiplier. That multiplier applies to the whole swept total, not to one fish — a 10x wild landing on six fish is where base-game sessions turn around.

Hook, Dynamite and Bazooka

The three helpers all address the same frustration: a spin that lands one element short of paying. The Hook can drag in a third Scatter when two are showing. Dynamite can blast in a Fisherman Wild when Money symbols have nobody to collect them. The Bazooka works the other way, converting symbols on the grid into fish when the Fisherman has turned up to an empty lake.

They fire at random rather than on a guaranteed schedule, and the provider does not publish exact conditions. What matters practically is that the base game now has three ways to rescue itself, which is the main reason it feels less like waiting than earlier titles in the series.

The bonus round and its counter

Three, four or five Scatters award 5, 7 or 9 free spins. During the round at least one Fisherman Wild is guaranteed on every spin, and each one you collect fills a counter above the reels.

Every seventh wild collected adds five more spins and moves the multiplier along the ladder: 2x, then 3x, then 10x. Fourteen wilds puts you on the top rung for whatever spins remain. This chain is the only realistic path to the 5,000x ceiling — no single spin gets there.

Collection paying out
The Fisherman on reel 1 with a £6.00 banner — the total he swept up from the fish on screen, paid as one win.
Multiplier on the wild
A x2 badge attached to the Fisherman during free spins. The badge multiplies the collected total, not the individual fish.

A 200-spin session, read honestly

At a 10.6% hit rate you can expect roughly 21 paying spins across 200 — and most of them will return less than your stake, because that is how a ten-payline game with a 5,000× ceiling has to be built.

Over the same 200 spins the bonus should trigger around three times on average. “On average” is doing real work in that sentence: sitting 150 spins without one is entirely normal, and so is catching two inside twenty.

What the numbers do not do

Nothing in this table predicts your next spin. Each one is independent, a cold streak does not make a bonus “due”, and no stake pattern changes the underlying maths. These figures are useful for deciding how much to bring, not for deciding when to press.

Staking plan

How to make a session last

No strategy changes the return of a slot, and anyone selling one is selling something else. What you can control is stake size, session length and when you stop — and on a 5/5 volatility game those three decide almost everything about how it feels.

  1. 1

Divide by 200, not by 20

Take your session budget and split it into at least 200 spins. A £20 session means 10p spins. It is not exciting, but it is the only stake size that gives the bonus frequency room to actually happen.

  2. 2

Decide the exit before you start

Pick a stop-loss and a stop-win, and write them down if you have to. A game with a 5,000× ceiling will happily talk you into one more spin in either direction.

  3. 3

Use Bonus Bet only with a plan

Adding 50% for a better trigger chance makes sense if you are specifically hunting the bonus and have budgeted for the higher stake. Switching it on without raising the budget simply shortens your session by a third.

  4. 4

Treat Bonus Buy as a purchase, not an investment

At 100× the total bet you are buying one round with an uncertain outcome, and bought rounds can finish below what they cost. If you would not pay that much for the entertainment alone, leave it alone.

  5. 5

Check the RTP before committing a bankroll

The gap between 96.50% and 94.50% is two percentage points of every stake on every spin. The info panel tells you which build the casino licensed, and looking takes thirty seconds.

Avoid these

Seven ways players make it worse

None of these are secrets. They are just the things that turn a game built for patience into a short and expensive evening.

  1. 01

Playing at a stake you can only repeat twenty times

The most common way to never see the bonus round. Twenty spins on a game that triggers once in fifty-nine is a coin flip you have already lost.

  2. 02

Assuming a cold streak means the bonus is due

Every spin is independent. Two hundred dry spins tell you nothing about the two hundred and first, and raising your stake to catch up only shortens the session.

  3. 03

Never checking which RTP version is running

Three builds exist and the difference is real money over a long session. The info panel shows the active figure; nobody will volunteer it.

  4. 04

Buying the bonus on a budget that cannot absorb it

A 100× purchase at 20p is £20. If that is most of your session budget, one below-average round ends the night.

  5. 05

Chasing the 5,000× ceiling as a target

It needs a chain of retriggers up to the 10× rung with a crowded grid. Treat it as the theoretical maximum it is, not as an outcome to plan around.

  6. 06

Claiming free spins without checking eligibility

Bonus terms sometimes exclude specific games or count them at a reduced rate towards wagering. Read that line before you deposit, not after.

  7. 07

Playing without a deposit limit set

The one mistake on this list that has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with how the evening ends. Set it first.

Demo or real

What the free version does and does not give you

The demo is not a watered-down build. It runs the same maths, which makes it the cheapest way to learn where the collect step fits and whether the rhythm of a 5/5 volatility game suits you at all.

FAQ

Rules questions, answered

Do Money symbols pay without a Fisherman Wild?

No. A Money symbol holds a value but pays nothing on its own — a wild has to land on reel 1 or reel 5 to collect it. That is why the Dynamite feature exists: it can drop a Fisherman in when the fish would otherwise go uncollected.

Does the multiplier apply to each fish or to the total?

To the total. When the Fisherman sweeps up six Money symbols, their values are added together and the multiplier is applied once to that sum. A crowded grid of small values can therefore beat a single large one.

How many wilds do I need for the 10× multiplier?

Fourteen. The counter steps up on every seventh collected wild, so the seventh moves you to 3× and the fourteenth reaches 10×. Each step also adds five more free spins.

Is the Bonus Buy better value than waiting?

Not inherently. It costs 100× your total bet for one round whose outcome is still random, and a bought round can pay less than it cost. It buys convenience and a guaranteed feature, not a better expected return.

How many spins should I budget for?

At least 200. The bonus triggers naturally about once in 59 spins, so a shorter session is quite likely to end without seeing the free spins at all. Divide your budget by 200 to find a stake, rather than picking a stake and hoping.

Can I tell which RTP version a casino is running?

Yes — open the game information panel and look at the stated return to player. It will read 96.50%, 95.50% or 94.50%. The paytable in that same panel also shows exact symbol values at your current stake.

Know the rules? Go fishing.

You now know more about how this game pays than most people who load it. Try the collect step in the demo a few times, decide on a stake you can repeat two hundred times, and set your deposit limit before the first spin.
